Työpajassa suuntaamme yhdessä eri puolille Helsinkiä tutustumaan julkiseen taiteeseen. Tapaamme ja keskustelemme taiteilijoiden kanssa, jotka toteuttavat julkisia taideteoksia. Vierailujen ja tapaamisten inspiroimina pohdimme yhdessä, millaista voisi olla näkövammaisten lähtökohdista ja ehdoilla tehty julkinen taide? Syntyneiden ajatusten pohjalta suunnittelemme ja toteutamme kollektiivisen julkisen taideteoksen Helsingin kaupunkiympäristöön. Teos rakennetaan heinäkuussa ja julkistetaan elokuussa 2024.

 Työpaja ja siinä käytettävät materiaalit ovat maksuttomia. Vierailut julkisen taiteen kohteisiin kuvailutulkattuja. Työpajakielenä on suomi, mutta tulkkaus ja osallistuminen englanniksi mahdollista. Osallistuaksesi työpajaan et tarvitse aiempaa kokemusta julkisesta taiteesta – riittää, kun olet utelias ja avoin uusille lähestymistavoille. Voit osallistua koko pajaan tai sen itsellesi sopiviin osiin. Jos kiinnostuit tervetuloa työpajan ensimmäiseen tapaamiseen torstaina 9.4.2024 klo 17:00 Näkövammaisten kulttuuripalvelu ry:n tiloihin, jossa kerrotaan tarkemmin työpajan sisällöistä ja keskustellaan osallistujien toiveista pajaan liittyen.

Public Art Workshop

Time: 9 April – 25 July 2024, every Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm (for those interested, also in July at a later specified dates and location). 

Venue: Cultural Services for the Visually Impaired Association (Näkövammaisten kulttuuripalvelu ry), Iiris Centre, Marjaniementie 74, Helsinki (Itäkeskus), and various public art sites in Helsinki.

Are you interested in exploring public art in Helsinki, meeting the artists who create it, or making public art yourself?

In the workshop, we will go together to different parts of Helsinki to explore public art. We will meet and discuss with artists who create public artworks. Inspired by these visits and interactions, we will collectively reflect on what public art could be like from the perspective and on the terms of visually impaired people? Based on the generated ideas, we will design and create a collective public artwork for the urban environment of Helsinki. The art work will be built in July and presented to the public in August 2024.

The workshop and materials used are free of charge. Visits to public art sites will be audio described. The workshop is conducted in Finnish, but interpretation and participation in English are possible. You do not need previous experience in public art to participate in the workshop — just be curious and open to new approaches. You can participate in the entire workshop or in parts that suit you. If you are interested, welcome to the first meeting of the workshop on Thursday, 11 April 2024, at 5 pm at the premises of Cultural Services for the Visually Impaired (Näkövammaisten kulttuuripalvelu ry), where we will discuss the workshop's contents in more detail and address the participants' wishes.
